Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, will begin their journey toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games with a second-round clash against either Mauritius or Djibouti following the official draw by Confederation of African Football.

The Black Queens have been handed a bye from the opening round of the African qualifiers, a reward for their impressive standing in the continental rankings.

This means Ghana will skip the preliminary stage and await the winner of the first-round encounter between Mauritius and Djibouti.

The second-round fixtures are scheduled to be played between October 5 and October 13, 2026, with Ghana aiming to secure a strong start in what promises to be a demanding qualification campaign.

Despite the advantage of avoiding the first hurdle, the road to the Olympic Games remains challenging.

The Black Queens will need to successfully navigate three more knockout rounds after the second stage to book one of Africa’s limited slots at the women’s football tournament of the 2028 Olympics.

Head coach and the technical team are expected to intensify preparations ahead of the qualifiers, as Ghana seeks a return to the Olympic stage.

The Black Queens last featured at the Olympic Games in 2004 and will be eager to end the long wait with a strong and consistent showing throughout the qualification series.
