FIFA has confirmed a series of major decisions covering tournament hosting, international calendars and future regulatory changes following its latest Council meeting.
Armenia and Georgia have been appointed as joint hosts of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2029, marking a significant moment for both nations on the global stage. FIFA also confirmed that the United States, with Miami as the host city, will stage the final phase of the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup from January 27 to 31. The competition’s regulations have also been approved.
Meanwhile, FIFA announced that the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2026 in Qatar will run from November 19 to December 13 this year.
The Council also confirmed key dates for major continental tournaments. The AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia will be held from January 7 to February 5, 2027, while both the Concacaf Gold Cup and the CAF Africa Cup of Nations are scheduled to run from June 19 to July 2027.
In governance matters, FIFA confirmed that its presidential election for the 2027-2031 term will take place at the 77th FIFA Congress in 2027, with the electoral process beginning on April 30, 2026.
The Council also approved plans to consult stakeholders on a proposal that would require clubs to field at least one homegrown U-20 or U-21 player during matches, with further discussions expected next year.
